8 and 9

A teacher is a designer because a lesson plan is nothing but art. You have to take time out to make sure everything is right. Every lesson plan can not be the same, and have to have a different purpose.

iStopMotion is a software that let students starting with elementary kids  design their own movies and time-lapsed recordings. The students are also able to do frame by frame editing. It seems fun and easy to use!

Digital storytelling allows the kid to write a story and then shoot it on a camera. Then after that they are able create their own little ditigal project.  I believe this assingment could work in the classroom. The digital storytelling would teach the students good orginizational and communication skills.

I am a visual person and I think this software will allow you to become more hands on.You will have choices when it comes to what software you are wanting to use. So television being a learning tool is ok for some but not all.

Voice Thread

I would absolutley  use voice threads in my classroom because it can be used in a variety of ways.. I love the idea of  how you can use the voice thread and all the other ways  you can use it . The student is in full control and that is what I like most about it.  Voice threads will allow a student to comment five different ways which include by telephone, web cam, text, microphone and file upload. I also believe that  this can also teach the students. Some students are visual learners and by performing  the act themselves open up a great opprotunity to learn.

Using a voice thread is a great way to make learning seem relevant and fun at the same time.

Gee Principles

  • Gee's principle of probing (p. 54) states that learning is a cycle of probing the world (doing something) and reflecting in and on this action and forming a hypothesis. Select 3 principles you think it would be important for education.

  • The  three principles I think that are important would have to be practice, discovery and  probing.
Practice makes perfect , the more you do something the better you are at it.In education this term is used very heavily. When you were learning your abc's, you had to be repetitive in order to remember them. I feel as though alot of times  l have learned certain things just by going out and discovering them. This principle will help when it comes to critical thinking or brainstorming activities. Probing is basically another word for experimenting. You are going out and actually testing the information you have gathered.

  • Good simulations are hard to create. If you were creating a simulation for your class, what activity would you support? What variables could students manipulate? How would they affect each other?

  • I would support an activity for biology, it would be like a jepordy game. Some people are visual learners and this would help out tremendolously. Students would be able to match pictures with an answer, and in biolgy there are a lot of pictures.

I really feel as though all of these principles are important, though some are more effective. I plan to use some of these in my class. Simulation is a great thing when it comes to education because thats whats popular right now. Video games are interesting to kids and when it is involved in learning, it makes it even better.
