8 and 9

A teacher is a designer because a lesson plan is nothing but art. You have to take time out to make sure everything is right. Every lesson plan can not be the same, and have to have a different purpose.

iStopMotion is a software that let students starting with elementary kids  design their own movies and time-lapsed recordings. The students are also able to do frame by frame editing. It seems fun and easy to use!

Digital storytelling allows the kid to write a story and then shoot it on a camera. Then after that they are able create their own little ditigal project.  I believe this assingment could work in the classroom. The digital storytelling would teach the students good orginizational and communication skills.

I am a visual person and I think this software will allow you to become more hands on.You will have choices when it comes to what software you are wanting to use. So television being a learning tool is ok for some but not all.

Voice Thread

I would absolutley  use voice threads in my classroom because it can be used in a variety of ways.. I love the idea of  how you can use the voice thread and all the other ways  you can use it . The student is in full control and that is what I like most about it.  Voice threads will allow a student to comment five different ways which include by telephone, web cam, text, microphone and file upload. I also believe that  this can also teach the students. Some students are visual learners and by performing  the act themselves open up a great opprotunity to learn.

Using a voice thread is a great way to make learning seem relevant and fun at the same time.

Gee Principles

  • Gee's principle of probing (p. 54) states that learning is a cycle of probing the world (doing something) and reflecting in and on this action and forming a hypothesis. Select 3 principles you think it would be important for education.

  • The  three principles I think that are important would have to be practice, discovery and  probing.
Practice makes perfect , the more you do something the better you are at it.In education this term is used very heavily. When you were learning your abc's, you had to be repetitive in order to remember them. I feel as though alot of times  l have learned certain things just by going out and discovering them. This principle will help when it comes to critical thinking or brainstorming activities. Probing is basically another word for experimenting. You are going out and actually testing the information you have gathered.

  • Good simulations are hard to create. If you were creating a simulation for your class, what activity would you support? What variables could students manipulate? How would they affect each other?

  • I would support an activity for biology, it would be like a jepordy game. Some people are visual learners and this would help out tremendolously. Students would be able to match pictures with an answer, and in biolgy there are a lot of pictures.

I really feel as though all of these principles are important, though some are more effective. I plan to use some of these in my class. Simulation is a great thing when it comes to education because thats whats popular right now. Video games are interesting to kids and when it is involved in learning, it makes it even better.

    Week 7

What types of writing activities would you make the best use of technology in your classrooms?
Powerpoint, research papers, and excel. Powerpoint is probably the most popular popular utility used in any classroom across the nation. With that being said I would make sure that this is probably the first thing they know how to use. Typing a research paper to some, is the hardest task in life, but with early exposure the student can become more experienced with it. Excel can also be difficult at times if you have not used it before. So one of my goals would be to teach the student how to successfully use it, so when they do go to college the will be able to do it flawlessly.

We are creating PowerPoint this week, how would you Not let PowerPoint presentation distract your audience? Do you think you can follow the potential pitfalls from the textbook?

I would probably not make it to fancy. In powerpoint you have the ability to make presentations that are beyond creative. You can add sound, video and what ever else you want. When we create ours it will be straight to the point and  not have every animation known to mankind on it.

In conclusion, when it comes to technology in the classroom, it is very important to expose your students at an early age. Microsoft word, excel and powerpoint are some very important programs that are used and should be taught to a student before entering college. Exposer and repetition are the keys to sucess.

    Assignment 3

Inspiration and Webspiration are very similar  and have the same concepts. They were made to help the student improve certain basic skills such as writing and brainstorming. I would use them if I were assigning the students a project that caused them to brainstorm or if I told them to write a paper they could use one of the programs to help them gather thoughts about what to write about.

I think typing a research paper and actually trying to find the information online is the best activity in my opinion. Students can help each other with writing by just basically being there and proofreading and suggesting other things they should incorporate in their paper. One time at school I had to teach my class how to serve a volleyball and I was very knowledgable about that skill because I played in high school. I feel as though in order for you to teach someone a skill, you need to know a lot about it.

Webspiration and inspiration I think are some very helpful and interesting tools to use in a classroom. They are educating but at the same time making it fun. When I start teaching I will consider using them. When technology is involved in teaching, it makes it ten times better, for the student and the teacher.

    Assignment

What do you think about using blogs? What and how do you think blogs would be useful for education? Some people think using blogs in classrooms is a waste of students’ time. How would you respond?
What are some ways that you could use he technology ideas in Chapter 6 to support your curriculum and student learners?
I really think using a blog is very awesome. but to be honest I really do not see how they would be useful in a classroom. I wouldn't say that it was not useful, its just that I wouldn't know how to use them in that type of setting. One idea I think is that if you are giving an assignment, you could have your class create a blog account and they would be able to have class discussions about the given assignment.
